Hi Reader, Today is July 31st. Yesterday, I overheard something at my doctor’s office that I don’t remember hearing when I lived in New York. “See you at the end of August.” Then another employee said it. A few minutes later, my doctor smiled and told me she was taking 4 weeks off herself. Whoa, what the heck was going on? I just came back from a short week-long vacation, and hearing that conversation made me realize something. Whether you take 4 weeks off or 4 days, chances are your life looks a little different in the summer than it does in the middle of winter. If you're anything like me, you may have the urge to eat salads and spend more time outside soaking up a little vitamin D. Maybe you're even lucky enough to take a vacation. Here's what's been milling around my Feng Shui head while observing all this: We tend to naturally change our routines with the seasons, but do we match our homes as well? Living in France has made me realize that the seasons aren't just something we experience outside. Parisians seem to let the seasons shape the rhythm of their lives. They eat seasonally, pay attention to their impact on the environment, and slow down in summer... Continue reading here. Man, vacation is great but transitioning back is hard. As a recovering New Yorker and someone who genuinely loves her work, I find it hard to fully unplug. But I challenged myself and gave myself a little buffer in Paris tourist mode before fully stepping back in. Transition has included sushi as my default dinner after vacation (still to find my fave spot so I'll keep searching), walking the emptier Parisian streets as folks have already left on their vacations, discovering murals of Cyrano de Bergerac and an unexpectedly controversial word about unemployment. As well as spotting a sign cheering on the cyclists as the Tour de France finished on the Champs-Élysées. And no, I did not attend. I was pooped from vacation! Yes, definitely a good problem to have. We were able to squeeze in a lovely dinner with friends and I met one of their dear pups who happily sat on my lap as we sipped our aperitifs. Even Parisian dogs are chill. Actually, this one is Australian, but definitely French by assimilation. Here's to another week of love, life and laughter. Hoping the same for you! xo Follow us on social media! |

Hi Reader, Last week, I received many concerned messages from friends and family in the US. They saw the news headlines about the protests in the streets of France and wondered, is Susan ok? Rest assured, I am ok. There’s definitely something about living in France that keeps you on your toes! One minute you can be admiring the beautiful architecture, enjoying your café and the next minute, there’s a passionate political debate or a “manifestation,” aka protest just winding around the corner....
Hi Reader, Three years in, I'm discovering the difference between loving a culture and living in it. Paris, ah Paris. I moved back here 3 years ago, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, confident to take on my new world and life. I mean, I spoke pretty fluent French, knew which utensil was used for what course or animal/vegetable/other, and I already had French friends. It was an easy slam dunk, right? Omg, so wrong. As a Feng Shui consultant, I've spent years helping people understand how their...
Hi Reader, Is it as hard for you as it is for me to take time off? I'm back from 5 weeks away from my newsletter and blog writing duties. I was travelling for work, taking personal time off to go to the US Open as well as visiting family. Even though I am surrounded daily by a slower paced Parisian rhythm, the NYC hustler in me can't stop muscling her way in. Not thinking about work and you guys was at times a struggle. As I love what I do for a living and it's woven into every fiber of my...
