Maybe it's just summer

Hi Reader,

This week's musing is going to be a short one since I'm currently on vacation. You know, that NY-style vacation where you are still kinda checking your emails? But I'm not.

I have had a pretty intense first half of the year and needed to completely unplug to regenerate for the second half of the Fire Horse year. But before I disappear again, I want to share a Feng Shui anecdote with you

Recently, I had a Feng Shui consultation with a lovely couple who were moving into a new home together for the first time. My client told me that her partner of many years had quite recently spent a year in bed after he retired from his high-powered executive job. I exclaimed, "Oh no, was he unwell?"

Personal note from Susan:

Oyster Wonderland

I did it. I went on a short vacation, or as my Parisian friends would say, un long week-end. Well, I'm actually still on it, but I wanted to take a few minutes to share my adventures since you know that's what I love to do.

We ventured north of Paris, Cancale-bound. My friends told me that if you like oysters, this is a not-to-be-missed destination in Brittany. Well... I lovvvvveeee oysters, so I thought, I'll check it out.

I totally did not expect what I encountered.

Imagine this: a tiny seaside town on La Manche with essentially one little street. A sleepy, bustling street overlooking an oyster bay. An oyster bay! You can actually see where the oysters are harvested, and just a few feet away are little oyster stands where you choose your feast by the dozen. Creuses (cupped)? Plates (flat)? Or a mixed platter? ALL, please! And for mere euros.

I was in oyster heaven, as you can imagine.

Once you've made your selection, they hand everything to you on a colorful platter. You grab a glass of white wine from the little wine truck, find a spot on the stone steps in the sunshine, and happily slurp your oysters one by one, tossing the shells back onto the beach where the hungry little seagulls eagerly peck at the bits you couldn't quite reach. It was one of the most beautiful gastronomical ecosystems I've ever experienced.

Not much more to say except that Breton hospitality exceeded every expectation. And my American idea of "hard cider" was definitely not prepared for the wonderfully funky character of authentic Breton cidre. It took a little getting used to, but it was absolutely worth the experience.

Here's to your summer weekend!

I help you use Feng Shui as a strategy for transformation, not just design. We shift your energy, refine your environment and bring your next chapter into focus.

Hi Reader, Last week, I received many concerned messages from friends and family in the US. They saw the news headlines about the protests in the streets of France and wondered, is Susan ok? Rest assured, I am ok. There’s definitely something about living in France that keeps you on your toes! One minute you can be admiring the beautiful architecture, enjoying your café and the next minute, there’s a passionate political debate or a “manifestation,” aka protest just winding around the corner....

Is the honeymoon with Paris over?

Hi Reader, Three years in, I'm discovering the difference between loving a culture and living in it. Paris, ah Paris. I moved back here 3 years ago, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, confident to take on my new world and life. I mean, I spoke pretty fluent French, knew which utensil was used for what course or animal/vegetable/other, and I already had French friends. It was an easy slam dunk, right? Omg, so wrong. As a Feng Shui consultant, I've spent years helping people understand how their...

Before you make your Fall to-do list...

Hi Reader, Is it as hard for you as it is for me to take time off? I'm back from 5 weeks away from my newsletter and blog writing duties. I was travelling for work, taking personal time off to go to the US Open as well as visiting family. Even though I am surrounded daily by a slower paced Parisian rhythm, the NYC hustler in me can't stop muscling her way in. Not thinking about work and you guys was at times a struggle. As I love what I do for a living and it's woven into every fiber of my...
